Marion Chamber announces 2014 Business & Industry of the Year

The Marion Chamber of Commerce announced that the 2014 Business & Industry of the Year is AISIN Light Metals of Marion, Illinois.
ALM is located in the REDCO Industrial Park area in Marion. They manufacture extruded aluminum parts of the automotive industry, including Toyota and Chrysler.
ALM broke ground on their 129,000 square foot facility in October 2003. In April, 2004, ALM completed the construction of their facility. The first shipment to leave ALM was in September 2004. Since that time, ALM has achieved many milestones since that time, including:
“AISIN Light Metals is contributing to a better global environment through the manufacturing of light metal products for vehicles,” said Ryoju Tsuji, president of ALM. “The goal of ALM is to become a leading manufacturer of aluminum extrusion automotive parts. We will meet the expectations of our team members, local community, and those with a shared interest in ALM by being committed to solid financial performance.”
ALM’s sales have grown since it first opened. In 2006, the company saw $27.9 million in sales. For 2014, the company is predicting $54 million in sales.
The company has also grown in many other areas. In 2003, ALM had 35 employees; Toyota was its only customer; and the facility had one 4,000 metric ton extrusion press and two machining assembly lines. In 2014, ALM boasts 112 employees; its customers include Toyota, Honda and Chrysler; the facility holds two 4,000 metric ton extrusion presses and nine machining assembly lines.
“Ten years ago, Aisin light Metals started production as the aluminum extrusion plant of the North American Aisin Group. Looking back, continuous growth hasn’t been easy. We have experienced many hard times, but each time, our employees, our partners, and everybody around us has given us a warm hand,” said Tsuji. “I believe this honorable award is all due to those gracious support. ALM will embrace this honor, continue to take pride in what we are doing, and continue to contribute to the local welfare.”
ALM’s plant is 82m x 146m and was the second of the three AISIN plants (AISIN Electronics and AISIN Manufacturing) sprawling across 20 acres in the REDCO Industrial Park in Marion.
“All of ALM’s activities revolve around two deep-rooted principles: highest quality and respect for human resources,” said Tsuji. “These principles are visible throughout our daily activities.”
ALM makes the following components for the following customers: Toyota Avalon rear bumper reinforcement for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Group in Georgetown, Ky.; front and rear bumper reinforcements and engine compartment for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana in Princeton, Ind.; front and rear bumper reinforcement for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada in Cambridge, Ontario; antilock brake system body for Advanced Intelligent Chassis Systems in Lebanon, Ohio; front bumper reinforcement and reinforcement extensions for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas in San Antonio, Texas; front bumper reinforcements and reinforcement extensions for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Baja California in Baja California, Mexico; rear bumper reinforcement for Chrysler Canada in Brampton, Ontario; and bumper reinforcements for Subaru of Indiana Automotive in Lafayette, Ind. By the end of 2015, ALM hopes to begin manufacturing rear bumper reinforcements for the Honda CR-V.
“ALM is a very fast growing company, which won business this year with two new customers and winning future business with our main customer Toyota,” said Michael Mitchell, assistant department manager of manufacturing for ALM. “It is a great honor to win the Business and Industry of the Year Award from the Marion Chamber of Commerce.  I see this as a great community and area business acknowledgment to go along with our previous customer quality and environmental awards.  We have a lot of very dedicated team members, which makes possible our future growth with our community and customers.”
