Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Illinois invites friends and supporters to gather outdoors at Touch of Nature on September 24th to celebrate 17 years of service to youth across Southern Illinois. “We have created a relaxed and safe environment to celebrate our accomplishments over the past year,” says Tina Carpenter, Chief Executive Officer. “Blue Jeans 4 Blue Doors is our inaugural Fall event providing a stage to raise dollars to support our mission as well as recognize our community partners who have gone above and beyond to lead our organization over the past year.”

Four community awards will be presented during the evening: the VIB (Very Important Business) Partner of the Year, Blue Door, Outstanding Board Member of the Year, and the John Cherry Heart and Soul.  “Without the support of our community, we would not be able to provide non-stop service to our youth and families,” said Carpenter. “These community awards are our way of saying thank you and honoring those who believe so strongly in our mission.”

To recognize the tremendous support received from community businesses, the VIB Partner of the Year award was created. The finalists for the inaugural presentation of this award are Banterra Bank, Black Diamond Harley-Davidson, and Southern Illinois Healthcare.  The Blue Door award was created to recognize an individual who has gone above and beyond to promote, advocate, and raise dollars for the Club. Nominees for this inaugural award include volunteers of the Marion Task Force who have worked tirelessly to open doors at the Club’s newest location in Marion. The Outstanding Board Member of the Year is presented annually and recognizes the dedication and hard work of one member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Illinois Board of Directors.

The inaugural John Cherry Heart & Soul award was presented in 2019 during the 15th anniversary of the Club. “This award recognizes a community member or organization that has demonstrated throughout the year a passion for their community in a manner consistent with the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Illinois”, said Carpenter. “Our mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as caring, productive, and responsible citizens.” John Cherry is a founder of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Illinois. It was his desire to have a “place: for all youth to gather and is the reason the Boys & Girls Club is present in our community today. “The winner of this award shows consistent heart and soul by their passion, integrity, spirituality, determination, love, initiative, and humility. The recipient demonstrates a commitment to make our community a better place, especially for those who need us most.”

Entertainment for the evening will include music by Miranda Willmore and her band U-Foria. Willmore gained national attention after a video of her singing Happy Birthday at Cracker Barrell went viral. Since that recording, she has been featured on The Today Show and her band received a recording session in Nashville paid for by Cracker Barrel. U-foria is a high energy band, based out of Southern Illinois specializing in Country, Southern Rock, Blues, and original music.

A Traeger Grill Package valued at $1,000+ and a Wine and Dine Southern Illinois Package valued at $500+ will be raffled to support the Club. All proceeds from these raffles benefit the Club. Raffle tickets are 1/$10 or 3/$20. Tickets may be purchased at Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Illinois Administrative Offices located at 101 S Lewis Lane or online at BGCSI.ORG/BJ4BD. The winners do not have to be present and will be drawn at the end of the evening.
