Barnett Bugg Lee and Carter is one of the oldest law firms in the state of Alabama.  The law firm was founded in 1903 by John B. Barnett.  Mr. Barnett was instrumental in bringing Alabama Power to Monroe County.  

Mr. Barnett’s partners were L.J. Bugg and A.C. Lee, father of Harper Lee and Alice F. Lee.  Alice F. Lee joined the firm in 1944 and remained until her death in 2014 at the age of 103.

The firm currently consists of John B. Barnett III, Tonja B. Carter, and Christopher J. Carter.
