A world-class education gives every child in Arizona the tools to succeed in school and in life, regardless of background, income or zip code. The path to excellence requires students who are motivated and ready to learn, involved parents, trained and committed educators, informed and engaged voters, and capable and supportive elected officials. In other words, it takes all of us.
Arizona’s students are counting on us. While there are many examples of world-class education all across the state, Arizona’s student outcomes overall fall below the national average in test scores, high school graduation rates, and degree attainment. Far too few students successfully attain a postsecondary education at a time when the majority of jobs require one.
Education impacts more than just kids. A stronger education system contributes to our economic growth by increasing individual earnings, tax revenue, and supporting new jobs. It also reduces government costs for health, crime, and welfare. For example, each class of Arizona dropouts costs Arizona $7.6B over their lifetimes.
The goals we’ve set are in reach, but no one can accomplish them alone. Change in education will come from people who care about the future of our students and our state and are committed to taking action in their local community.
