Established in 1867, Tucson Unified School District is the oldest district in the state, formed when Arizona was still a territory.

TUSD is also one of the largest districts in the state, encompassing 229.5 square miles in southeast Arizona, Pima County. We have a diverse student population of over 52,000 students in grades pre-K-12.

We feature more than 90 schools, including magnet schools which offer a wide range of special programs.

Our services include full-day kindergarten, school meals, health services,interscholastic activities, fine and performing arts, counseling, special education, and much more.

The school labels released by the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) show significant improvements in schools throughout Tucson Unified School District during the 2011-2012 school year. TUSD has doubled the number of schools with a "B" label. Twenty-two percent of district schools are now labeled in that higher performing category. (For more information, see the press release.)

During the past year, we've made rigorous instruction a priority. More than 4,000 teachers and administrators have been trained in the Essential Elements of Instruction – a dynamic staff development program designed to instill effective instructional practices across the district.

We adopted a new mathematics and English language arts curriculum based on Arizona Common Core State Standards and designed to prepare students for success in the classroom and on state assessment tests.

We upgraded technology across the district and in our schools by successfully qualifying for federal E-Rate money to overhaul our infrastructure system and replace 7,300 aging school computers.
