Poinsett County Treasurer
Home

The County Treasurer is the disbursement office of the county. The Treasurer is responsible for the custody and disbursement of all county funds and school district funds. The Treasurer, therefore, receives county property tax collections, county turn back funds, municipal funds, sales tax and revenues from various other sources. After receiving this revenue, the Treasurer distributes the money to the various taxing entities and other units of the county.

After the County Clerk has prepared all warrants and printed payroll and accounts payable checks, the Treasurer must sign all checks to pay employees and creditors of the county.

The Treasurer must keep an accurate and detailed account of all receipts and disbursements of the county. The Treasurer is required to make a monthly financial report to the quorum court on the fiscal condition of the county.  For accuracy, The Division of Legislative Audit audits the Treasurer’s books annually.

The Treasurer is also responsible for the projection of all county revenue.  These projections are used to approve the annual operating budget by the quorum court for each department within the county.

Continuing education seminars are provided throughout the year to allow Treasurers to stay up to date on the ever-changing laws and requirements that affect the Treasurer’s Office.
