Rotary Club of Sun City West
Home

The Rotary Club of Sun City West is one of over 32,000 Rotary Clubs in 200 countries and territories. There are approximately 1.2 million Rotarians worldwide representing a cross section of business and professional leaders who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help to build peace and understanding in the world.

Situated in a retirement community in southern Arizona, our club has a diverse membership of 70. We are men and women, retired executives, former government officials, scientists, business and professional people as well as the current leaders of local Arizona industry, commerce and health care. From late fall to early spring we are joined by over 30 sojourners; snowbird Rotarians who migrate to Sun City West from their homes in the north.

Our members are involved in all manner of service on both the local and international level. One member, with his wife, makes several trips a year to South America to work with Rotarians there on literacy and hunger projects. Another traveled to India to participate in a National Immunization Day - part of Rotary's multi-year effort to eradicate polio worldwide. Through our Endowment Fund we provide financial support to community human service agencies and this year completed a five year $37,000 pledge to a local community care expansion project.. Literacy is an important theme throughout the Rotary world and annually we donate dictionaries to the third graders in every school in the Dysart School District. This year over 1500 dictionaries were distributed. We also support the Dysart 5th Grade Rading Project by supplying mentors to 5th grade students.

Funds to support these efforts are raised principally through two major projects: a Gala and a golf tournament. In addition, many of our members make regular donations to the Endowment Fund. We're known as the club that does much for the community and has fun doing it!

A majority of our members are Paul Harris Fellows, an honor given when one has donated $1000 to the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. Many of those men and women are "multiple" Paul Harris Fellows and/or benefactors of the Foundation, having named the Foundation in their will. It is the Foundation that has spearheaded financial support for the Polio eradication program. At any one time over 8000 Foundation backed projects are operating throughout the world.

We meet every Friday at the Sun City West Foundation Building located on the corner of Stardust and R.H. Johnson Boulevards. Lunch is at 11:45. We invite you to join us for lunch, fellowship, and an engaging speaker.
