About Us:
Founded under the umbrella of The Anxious 4 Nothing Project, Inc., The Heartland Literacy Initiative addresses the pressing issue of limited access to reading materials and educational resources in economically disadvantaged areas. We place Little Free Libraries in communities where books are scarce, ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of reading. Our program focuses on placing these libraries in key locations such as affordable multi-family housing, pediatric and family health offices, laundromats, and community spaces, creating widespread access to literature.

Key Initiatives:

  1. Little Free Library Placement: We partner with local businesses, housing complexes, and community spaces to install Little Free Libraries. These libraries are stocked with books that are freely accessible to all. Our goal is to have libraries at 20+ locations across the Heartland by Summer 2025.
  2. Community Stewardship: Each Little Free Library is supported by a Literacy Manager who maintains the library and ensures it remains stocked with books. Our stewards partner with local schools, businesses, and community leaders to gather book donations and keep the libraries active.
  3. Bridging the Literacy Gap: By placing these libraries in high-need areas, we aim to close the literacy gap that affects children and adults in underserved communities. We provide access to books that promote reading comprehension, financial literacy, job readiness, and educational advancement.

Community Impact:
When children and families have access to books, it sparks imagination, increases school readiness, and fosters a love for learning. We believe that by breaking down the barriers to literacy, we can help people of all ages improve their educational outcomes and contribute to a thriving community.
