Buxton Park
Welcome to Buxton Park, a hidden gem located at 210 W Girard Ave in Indianola, IA 50125. Nestled in the heart of Indianola adjacent to Simpson College, Buxton Park captivates visitors with its stunning and serene ambiance. The park boasts formal gardens, a butterfly garden, an ornamental fountain, wind sculptures, public art, and a charming gazebo, creating a spectacular setting for intimate gatherings, memorable photo sessions, or a stroll in the park.
In 2019, we expanded our offerings with the addition of a delightful children's garden. This enchanting space invites little ones to connect with nature through a play tunnel, interactive Natureland game, musical instruments, planter boxes filled with touch-and-feel plants and vegetables, and other engaging nature-related activities. Buxton Park is not only a place of beauty and relaxation but also an educational experience for young minds.
As you explore the park, you'll discover our arboretum, which features a self-guided interpretive tree tour pamphlet available at the display case near the gazebo. Our commitment to accessibility is reflected in the three-tiered water fountain, designed to be ADA-accessible, and offering a refreshing drink for dogs on leashes. Buxton Park has a rich history, dating back to 1906 when it became the first park in our system, generously donated to the City by Mr. and Mrs. William Buxton. We invite you to immerse yourself in the natural splendor and community spirit that define Buxton Park—a cherished green oasis in the heart of Indianola.
