I help individuals and families do the important work that nobody likes to talk about — getting their affairs in order.
These days, our lives are almost entirely reliant on technology. From banking online and binge watching our favorite series to driving electric cars and following the latest TikTok trends, our world is a digital one whether we like it or not.
With countless accounts and passwords, it's more important than ever before to be more deliberate about organizing our affairs. Having our affairs in order today means a lot more than having a will.
As I approach 50, I see more and more people struggle, lose sleep and become overwhelmed with settling estates of loved ones. Some heart-breaking stories include:
- not being able to access a deceased spouse’s email or Apple account or a loved one's Facebook account (the privacy policies we love when we're alive work against us when we're not)
- begging a funeral director for access to a loved one's body because no one is able to unlock the individual's cell phone
- not having access to a loved one's legal documents (whether it's a safe deposit box or a lockbox in their home)
- paying monthly bills repeatedly — or accumulating late fees and/or interest charges — because they didn’t have passwords, account numbers or the ability to shut down accounts.
