Photography has been a constant in my life. It was in a darkroom when I was fifteen that I learned how to process film. Your first smell of “fixer chemical” is quite memorable. I borrowed a friend’s Canon SLR and fell in love with the entire process of taking photos on film– the moment with emotion, the anticipation for how it would turn out, the developing film, and watching my image magically appear. To me, it’s always been art.

Fast forward and a lot has changed, but I still have a Canon in my hands. Now it’s fully digital and mirrorless, but it is still creating art. Since picking up my first Canon, life has changed a bit. I married my handsome high school sweetheart that has become even more refined with age. I am proudly a boymom to the three cutest blond boys.

After ten years of teaching high school English and taking photos on the side, I leaped running Hannah Ruth Photography full-time. Leaving the classroom meant leaving some of my favorite people– high school seniors. So anytime I have the opportunity to work with seniors, it just feels right.

My greatest pride as a photographer is working with return clients over the years that become more like family. There is something so special when I can help encapsulate memories from an engagement, then a wedding, and a family session later on for the same couple.

You will typically find me shooting in natural lighting; I am particularly obsessed with the glorious golden hour when the sun casts a romantic glow around any subject in its path.

I am simply Hannah—lover of Jesus, wife, mommy, teacher, friend, and photographer. Join me anytime as I chase beautiful sunsets and beautiful moments.

Love, Hannah Ruth
