4th Annual Salute to Service

The South Fairfax Chamber hosts the business networking event each year to highlight those who serve the community.
This year, on November 13, we are highlighting local military-connected youth.
There are more than 1.6 million military children who face challenges and unique experiences as a result of their
parents' service. On average, military children move and change schools 6–9 times from the start of kindergarten to
high school graduation. It is not uncommon for a military kid to attend 3-5 high schools alone. The challenges they face
as a part of their youth helps prepare them for adversity throughout their lives.
Resilient is a word often used in describing these young patriots. "It is our honor to celebrate our local military-
connected youth," says Chamber Chair Casey Whitmarsh. "We've invited the South County Military-connected Youth
group to join us in November. They generously helped us last year when we were collecting clothing donations for Boots
to Suits, so we thought it only appropriate to thank them publicly for all they do for the community and each other."
The Chamber's Salute to Service is open to the public. It runs from 6:30p-8:30p, November 13 at Laurel Hill Golf in
Lorton. Whitmarsh says this is a great opportunity for business owners in Clifton, Burke, Lorton, and Fairfax Station to
learn more about the benefits of chamber membership.
