Marion Chamber Foundation holds 6th annual Bass Tournament

The Marion Chamber of Commerce Foundation sponsored the 6th annual two-person Bass Tournament at Pyramid Acres Marina on Sunday, April 24. The event was a fundraiser for the Marion Chamber Scholarship Program. 

Dale Dodd and Johnnie Dodd, both of Marion, took home $1,140 and the first place trophy for catching four fish weighing 12.01 pounds.

Gabe Jelley of Mulkeytown and Jacob Bowles of Golbertsville, Ky. took home $386 and the second place trophy for catching four fish weighting 11.07 pounds.

Taylor Schmitt of Lebanon and Jacob Louis of Pinckneyville took home $274 and the third place trophy for catching four fish weighing 9.4 pounds.

In fourth place was Chris Florek and Kevin Upchurch, both of Scott City, Mo. who caught four fish weighing 9.18 pounds. They earned $200.

Taking home fifth place and $146 was Steve Sanders and Greg Gorden, both of Vienna, who caught three fish weighing 8.97 pounds.

In sixth place was Darin Blank of Marion and John Travis of Olney who took home $110 for catching three fish weighing 7.13 pounds.

JT Russell and Brock Wilke, both of Goreville, earned seventh place and $72 for catching two fish weighing 6.2 pounds. JT Russell also took home the Big Bass trophy and $420 for catching a 4.36 pound fish.

30% of the entry fees went toward the Marion Chamber Scholarship Program. The Marion Chamber of Commerce Foundation currently offers two scholarships: John A. Logan College One Year Tuition Waiver and a Grad Spree Scholarship. The Marion Chamber of Commerce Foundation awards these scholarships based on the amount of money generated by the fundraising efforts from the previous year. The remaining monies from the tournament constituted plaques and the gross cash purse.
