Ransom Hacking

A message that none of us want to find on our computer screens...

"All files on your computer have been encrypted. You must pay this ransom within 72 hours to regain access to your data."

Ransomware is a particularly frightening variant of malware that can restrict access to infected computers and effectively cripple their operations. A consistent and thorough back-up and recovery plan is always a great first step in proactively decreasing your cyber-security risk.

The United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team has additional suggestions here and the New York Times shares this story on No Business Too Small to Be Hacked. Back-up your data and update your OS and software. Effectively manage permissions and teach your staff to avoid phishing attacks.

Door prizes at Chamber Mixer

We had a great crowd at the Chamber Mixer at Girling Health Care this evening! Rosa Cervantes told the group about Girling, and Jana Jackson told them about Lighthouse Hospice.
In the drawing for door prizes, Jim Kennedy of Kennedy Financial Services won the Kindle Fire HD tablet, Frances Rivers of Girling Health Care won a night's stay at La Quinta Inn & Suites, and Mark Harris of Farmers & Merchants Bank won a plant (just in time for his anniversary celebration). Old Rip t-shirts were won by Barbara Love of Town & Country Real Estate, and Terry Slavens of KATX radio.
Great food, great prizes, and great networking opportunities! The next Mixer will be hosted by Eastland Community Foundation at the Connellee Hotel on Monday, December 3rd at 5:00 PM.
