Middle Grade Author Event: Greg Rizzi
Description
A new young adult science fiction novel by professional animator and debut author Gregory Rizzi.
Set in a distant future where humanity searches the cosmos for a new home, Continuum blends epic adventure with powerful themes of perseverance, faith, and hope. In Continuum, mankind journeys across the stars to settle on Hera, a lush ocean-covered moon orbiting the hostile planet Ares. When catastrophe strikes during their arrival, the settlers crash-land on Ares—a brutal world filled with alien predators and unforgiving terrain.
Forced to survive, the pioneers build a walled city called Rhea. Their fortunes change when a mysterious event known as the Miracle gives rise to a generation of children with extraordinary telekinetic abilities known as Creators, transforming the struggling colony into a thriving civilization of forty million. But fear divides the city, and the Creators are cast into the wilderness, sparking years of violence and civilizational decline. Now, with Rhea facing invasion from the exiles it once banished, Lieutenant Jakob Daedalus of the Praetorian Guard must venture beyond the city walls with only his robot protector at his side. To save his people, Jakob must uncover the secrets of Ares—and the truth about his own past.
Rizzi says the story was deeply inspired by fatherhood. “I want young readers to realize that struggle and suffering are a natural part of life and never to despair in such times,” he explains. “For parents, I hope the story reminds them that while we try to prepare our children for the world, ultimately we must trust that the lessons we teach will guide them.”
