Award-winning nonprofit rehabilitation and education group SOAR (Saving Our Avian Resources) and their feathered friends will teach kids about the amazing adaptations of local raptors and their role in our environment.
SOAR was established in 1999 to perform raptor rehabilitation, education, and research. SOAR provides care for over 300 birds each year that have been injured or orphaned, primarily from Western Iowa. They also provide educational programs about non-releasable birds of prey throughout Iowa. Data collected by SOAR helps with ongoing research to improve rehab techniques, prevent future mortality, and to detect threats to wildlife populations.
For more information about SOAR or to see their current patients and educational ambassadors visit www.soarraptors/org.
Save the date for “Ocean Odyssey: Sting Rays” with the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium on Saturday April 27. Two shows will be provided; registration will open on the library website by March 15.
