NEW CLASSES FOR 2019. More than 150 have earned a Professional Development Academy certificate since it began in 2016!
As a member, you and your employees are eligible to participate in a professional development series: NAVIGATING THE FIVE GENERATIONS IN THE WORKPLACE. Successful professionals continually strive to learn. Expanding skill sets and knowledge enables individuals to transcend their careers. The Greater Bartow Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with Polk State College, announces the launch of the 2019 Greater Bartow Chamber Professional Development Academy (PDA). This program provides skills for business, organization, and personal growth and improvement through a variety of educational and training opportunities. Receive your PDA certificate by attending a minimum of five of the eight classes. Cost for the academy classes is covered in your Chamber membership investment. If you are an employee of a Chamber member business, you are entitled to attend any of the classes at no cost. If you are not employed by a Chamber member business, the classes are $29 per class.

What Is The Cost For The Classes?
Cost for the Greater Bartow Chamber of Commerce Professional Development Academy classes is covered in your Chamber membership investment. If you are an employee of a Chamber member business, you are entitled to attend any of the classes at no cost. However, if you do register for a class, and cannot attend, you must notify the Chamber 24 hours prior to the class. If you fail to notify the Chamber and do not show up, your business will be charged an administration fee of $15 for the missed class. If you are not employed by a Chamber member business, the classes are $29.00 per class.

Classes begin at 7:30 a.m. and end at 9:30 a.m.
Do I Have To Attend Every Class?
Absolutely not. You are allowed to pick and choose the classes that are right for you.
Do I Need To Pre-Register?
Yes - pre-registration is necessary. Simply go online to www.bartowchamber.com and click on the Professional Development Academy icon.
How Do I Earn My Certificate?
You can earn your Professional Development Academy Certificate by attending a minimum of five of the eight classes.

INSTRUCTOR BIOS:
J. Lenora Bresler, J.D., SHRM-SCP, SPHR, ASC
J. Lenora Bresler is an attorney, senior certified human resource professional, and a certified advanced speaker. She has her own leadership and motivation firm in Lakeland and is a keynote speaker, trainer, coach, and author. She is the co-author of Mission Possible, Best of the Best, and Instant Insight: 15 Questions to Great Relationships. She is also the editor of the motivation book, Jump Starts, by Timothy Richardson. Ms. Bresler has taught the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Learning System for eight years at Valencia College and has repeatedly won awards for 100% class pass rates. Ms. Bresler has also taught for the Polk State Corporate College since 2001. With a background in acting, singing, and piano, she brings a flavor of humor and entertainment to all her trainings.
Mary Owens
With over 20 years in the technology industries, Mary Owens is recognized as a visionary leader who has helped produce extraordinary growth in sales, profitability, and efficiency for many companies. In partnering with executives and organizations, Ms. Owens has learned that people can accomplish amazing things in the right atmosphere and when surrounded by the right support structure. Ms. Owens has extensive experience in Business Development, Strategic Planning, Sales Management, Distribution Management, and Marketing. She has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration degree, along with an Industrial Distribution Certification. She is an adjunct faculty instructor at Polk State College, and a columnist and managing editor for a quarterly magazine. She has been awarded the 2009 Chairman’s Award, was a finalist for Tampa Bay’s 2010 Business Women of the Year recognition, and received the YWCA Women in Leadership Award.
Judy Shields
Always smiling and high energy, Judy’s workshops are well known as fun, engaging and effective. She is an experienced learning solution facilitator and coach with a focus on professional development and learner engagement, utilizing a multifaceted approach to internal coaching, career advising, and change management methodology. Expert in small group and training workshop facilitation, coordinating large learning events, designing learning content and conducting on-line classes.
Judy is a native of Florida and attended the University of South Florida. She has been married for over 30 years to her college sweetheart and has 3 children and 4 grandchildren (more to come?). Hobbies include yoga, libraries, coffee shops and all things family.
Marianne George
Marianne George is the Director of Development and Alumni Relations for the Polk State College Foundation. She has worked at Polk State since 1995 and has over 28 years of fundraising experience. She is a graduate of Leadership Winter Haven, Leadership Lake Wales, and Leadership Polk, and previously served as president of the Junior League of Winter Haven and as a board member for Girls Inc. of Winter Haven. Marianne holds a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from The University of Tampa and a Master of Science in Management from The University of South Florida. An avid runner, Marianne has completed 10 half marathons.
Dr. Rosa Negrón-Muñoz
Dr. Negrón-Muñoz is a Board Certified Adult, Child & Adolescent and Forensic Psychiatrist. She is among a small percentage of psychiatrists who have achieved this distinction. She received her medical degree in 2003 from San Juan Bautista School of Medicine in Caguas, Puerto Rico. She completed her Psychiatric Residency and Fellowship programs at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center and Montefiore Medical Center. She furthered her training by receiving additional Psychoanalytic training at the New York University Psychoanalytic Institute, as well as being trained in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy at New York Medical College. Her professional experience includes providing psychiatric services and consultation across various levels of care including, but not limited to: private hospitals, community mental health centers, government agencies, jails and prisons, juvenile residential facilities, day treatment programs, schools, lawyers and the court system. Dr. Negrón-Muñoz is fully bilingual in both English and Spanish.
Dr. Negrón-Muñoz is also an accomplished researcher and speaker. Her research and publications have focused on factors contributing to juvenile delinquency; PTSD; and most recently school shootings. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association where she was recognized for her significant contribution to Psychiatry, and was acknowledged as a Fellow. She is also a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the Florida Medical Association, and the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law where she is an active member of the Corrections, Child and Adolescent and Trauma and Stress Committees. She currently is the Chair of the Developmental Disabilities Committee. In addition to her professional background Dr. Negrón-Muñoz is a compassionate, understanding doctor who takes the time to listen to her patients and understand their needs, advocating and implementing a holistic approach to their care.

With five generations all currently active in the workplace, this creates a large blend of backgrounds, personalities, and talents, that enables an organization to grow and flourish. The multi-generational perspectives are great, but it also creates challenges not only for management, but co-workers and the employee themselves. This session will focus on highlighting the unique attributes of each generation and how these can be utilized for collaboration and a smooth working environment for all.

This session will discuss how to promote and implement a mentally-healthy workplace as well as the generational link to mental health issues.

Organizations are becoming more open to ideas from all sources. This session aims to teach individuals how to promote their ideas respectfully, at the right time, and to the right audience. Presenting a case can be hard, but with the right tools, great ideas can turn into great opportunities for organizations of all types and sizes.
