Event Name:
Third Thursday Star Talks: Solar System Resource Assessments
Description
Since 1879, the USGS's Congressional mandate is to assess the natural resources our nation needs for its prosperity and security. This mandate extends to the Moon, Mars and beyond - where we must utilize resources ""in situ"" rather than sourcing our needs from the Earth. The USGS is developing ways to provide reliable, unbiased and quantitative assessments of the natural resources on the surface of asteroids, Mars and the Moon. Dr. Laszlo Kestay, Director, Astrogeology Science Center, USGS will discuss preliminary results of applying USGS assessment methods within our Solar System and show that there are abundant resources out there. For more information on the Prescott Astronomy Club, contact Pat Birck at 928.778.6324.
