Description
This fall the theatre department will be presenting Timberlake Wertenbaker’s Our Country’s Good. This award-winning modern classic play explores the themes of crime, punishment, and the unifying and redeeming power of theatre. Based on actual events, a young lieutenant and a group of convicts work together to stage the first theatre production in Australia. With only two copies of the text, cast members in chains, and the guards threatening to hang the leading lady, conditions are hardly ideal.


Winner of the Laurence Olivier Play Award and many other significant awards, Our Country’s Good has had successful runs in London and New York. ‘Rarely has the redemptive, transcendental power of theatre been argued with such eloquence and passion.’
