Folks in our community like to travel. Last year the Jefferson County Recorder’s office processed 359 new passports and 260 renewals, and they took 384 passport photos. The library’s travel books are popular, and its online foreign language tutorials are actively used.
In response to local wanderlust, library staff are hosting a free educational travel event on Tuesday, July 24, from 5:30-7:30pm. Attendees will receive an event “passport” upon entering the building, and will be encouraged to visit educational booths manned by subject experts on a wide range of travel topics: How to pack like a ninja, apply for a passport, meet TSA guidelines, convert currency, travel on a budget, enjoy group learning adventures, use safety measures, travel with your pet, get an international driver’s license, rent a foreign car, etc.
Local presenters include Dr. Wiegert from The Veterinary Clinic, Ann Tonnesson from The Travel Designer, Bri Buford and Adam Reese from MidwestOne Bank, Chris Carter from the Jefferson County Recorder’s Office, world traveler Denise Gallagher, etc. Out-of-town presenters will drive in from Landmark Luggage in Des Moines and Omaha, Road Scholar in Des Moines, and AAA of Iowa City.
Completed passports can be entered into a drawing to win exciting travel prizes! This event is free and open to the public.Links:
