A free screening of Life Before Fairfield and Heroes of Fairfield as part of the Fairfield History Series produced by Dick DeAngelis of Fair Field Productions.
Life Before Fairfield explores what happened in the area now known as Jefferson County BEFORE the first settlers arrived. Experience the impact of the great glaciers, the movement of prehistoric beasts and the traditions and language of the native peoples of this land. Soaring aerials of prairie grasses and snippets of interviews with archeologists and Native American tribal historians including world-renowned paleontologist, Dr. Bob Bakker of "Jurassic Park," bring to life the prehistoric beginnings of one small town in southeast Iowa.
Heroes of Fairfield delves into what it takes to be a true hero by bringing to life stories of ordinary citizens of the small town of Fairfield, Iowa who did extraordinary things to make a difference in their community and their world. Local and state historians, noted authors and local veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces uncover new information and stories about local heroes like U.S. Civil War heroine "Auntie" Mehitable Woods, the local members of Fairfield's “Underground Railroad” (UGRR), and more.
