This is an on-rope adventure into the tree top canopy. All climbers will be in harness to a hope and be wearing a helmet.

When getting ready for a tree climb, it’s good to be prepared. Of course, WildRice Adventures provides the climbing equipment and instruction, but we’d like to let potential climbers know a few things before participating in a tree climb.

Tree climbing is a good workout, so it’s wise to dress in layers.

Wear shoes that stay on the feet (tennis shoes or boots are best), because climbers will be using their feet to ascend in the tree. Flip flops, crocs, heels, or boots with spurs are not suitable for climbing.

Bring gloves for climbing. Regular climbers build up callouses on their hands, but someone who has not climbed before or has soft hands may have blisters by the end of the day. Your hands will be grasping rope the entire time that you are climbing.

Long hair should be pulled back into a ponytail.

If you wear glasses, it’s best to have a tether in case they get bumped off while aloft. Many a pair of glasses has been saved by a simple eyeglass tether.

Bring water. You’d be surprised how thirsty you can get when climbing! This is especially critical during Georgia’s hot, humid summers.

Notify climbing instructors of any health conditions (i.e. asthma, food/insect allergies) and be sure to bring any necessary tools (i.e. asthma inhaler, epi-pen, snacks).

If you want to take a cell phone in the tree with you, it will not stay in your pocket when climbing! Falling cell phones can injure people below. If you bring a bag with a string or loop (some kind of attachment point) on it, we can secure it to your climbing harness.

Bring a positive attitude. This is a challenge-by-choice activity, and the goal is to have fun! There is no competition.

Be aware of the weather. We can still climb in the rain, but it is not safe to climb during a thunderstorm.

If you are a minor, be sure that an adult is present and all forms have been signed.
