Opticare in was founded in 1978 by Dr. L.D. "Duke" Markeson. Over the next ten years Dr. Markeson and his capable staff worked to grow the practice until one doctor could no longer handle the patient demand.

In June of 1987 Dr. Steven Gander joined the practice, and in January of 1988 he purchased Opticare from Dr. Markeson. Dr. Bruce Storhaug joined Opticare as a partner in June of 1988. Dr. Destin Coles became an associate in October of 2002 and a partner in January of 2005.

Opticare was originally located at the corner of Third Street and DeMers Avenue in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. The flood of 1997 devastated that building and the practice was relocated to its current site, a new building at 421 DeMers Avenue NW in East Grand Forks, MN. At that time the practice name was modified to Opticare – Forks Vision Clinic to reflect the emphasis on eye health care services we provide.
