Johnston Partnership for a Healthy Community
Home

Johnston Partnership for a Healthy Community is a community-driven nonprofit dedicated to supporting the well-being of local families and students. Founded more than 25 years ago by compassionate school nurses within the Johnston Community School District, the organization began with a simple yet powerful mission: ensuring that students who were struggling with hunger received the support they needed. What started as a small effort to help children access food has grown into a collaborative initiative focused on strengthening the community through programs that nurture student success, stability, and opportunity.

Over the years, the Partnership has expanded its impact through meaningful collaborations with organizations such as the Johnston Rotary Club, the City of Johnston, and the Des Moines Area Religious Council. Key initiatives include a school-based mentoring program connecting adult volunteers with students in grades 6–12 to encourage academic achievement and personal growth, a community clothing closet that provides essential apparel through local donations, and access to food and personal care items through the DMARC food pantry network. Together, these programs reflect the Partnership’s ongoing commitment to building a healthier, more supportive environment where every member of the Johnston community has the resources to thrive.
