The Johnston Community School District (JCSD) serves more than 7,000 students in grades K–12 and is the 14th largest school district in Iowa. Encompassing 42 square miles and employing over 1,200 staff members, the district proudly supports the communities of Johnston and portions of Urbandale, Des Moines, Grimes, and Granger. With a graduation rate of 97.39 percent and consistently high student proficiency and attendance rates, JCSD is recognized for academic excellence, strong traditions, and exceptional postsecondary preparedness, making it a destination district for families across the region.

Founded in 1914 as a one-building school, JCSD has grown into a comprehensive district that includes a preschool, five elementary schools, two middle schools, a high school, and specialized programs that support diverse learner needs. As a leader in innovation, the district provides 1:1 iPads for all K–12 students and has earned the distinction of being an Apple Distinguished District, with all eight schools recognized as Apple Distinguished Schools. Beyond the classroom, students excel in athletics and activities, earning multiple state championships and statewide honors, while strong partnerships with local government and businesses further enrich opportunities for students and families.
