Heartland Area Education Agency partners with public and accredited non-public schools across central Iowa to enhance student learning, achievement, and well-being. Serving children from birth through age 21, the agency provides specialized support for students with diverse needs, consultative services for educators and administrators, and professional learning opportunities that strengthen instruction and leadership.
Established in 1975 by the Iowa Legislature, Heartland AEA is the largest of Iowa’s nine area education agencies. As a publicly funded entity, it is committed to delivering efficient, equitable, and high-quality educational services to more than 148,000 students and over 11,000 educators across 15 counties in central Iowa.
