Eagle Lake is a small, rural community in southeast Colorado County, right on U.S. Highway 90A—about an hour from Houston, a bit over two hours from San Antonio, and just under two from Austin. The town is also served by FM 102, FM 3013, FM 1093, and Interstate 10 is just 12 miles north.
With around 3,700 residents spread over about 2.8 square miles (including six acres of water), Eagle Lake is known for its rice farming, along with cotton, grains, and cattle. Hunting and ecotourism are popular here, and nearby sand and gravel mines support construction across southeast Texas. About 10,000 commercial trucks pass through town each day.
History lovers will enjoy the dozens of Historical Markers around town, and the Eagle Lake Commercial District is proudly listed on the National Register.
