One Step A La Vez

At One Step A La Vez, we are driven by a steadfast commitment to the One Step Promise. Since our inception in 2007, under the visionary leadership of founder Lynn Edmonds and a dedicated group of local teenagers, we have been devoted to serving the vibrant communities nestled within the Santa Clara River Valley, particularly the youth aged 13–19. Recognizing the challenges of poverty, substance abuse, family violence, and mental health issues plaguing our area, we embarked on a mission to provide a haven of safety and support for our young residents.
Our journey began with a simple yet powerful idea: to create a space where teens could access essential services, find solace, and receive guidance to navigate life's challenges. Through the collaborative efforts of our passionate team and the invaluable input of the youth themselves, the One Step A La Vez Program and Center were born. Rooted in the ethos of empowerment and cultural awareness, we strive to equip our youth with the tools they need to lead purposeful lives, foster inclusivity, and advocate for fairness and well-being within themselves and their communities. Our name, "One Step A La Vez," serves as a poignant reminder to take each step towards self and community improvement with determination and resilience, honoring the dual heritage of our region while embracing the transformative power of progress, one step at a time.
