Grist Mill and Gardens Historic Site

Grist Mill and Gardens Historic Site in Keremeos, British Columbia, traces its roots back to 1872 when Barrington Price, an English gentleman, established a water-powered mill and accompanying store in the Similkameen Valley. This venture quickly became integral to the local community, providing flour for settlers, First Nations, and miners traveling along the historic Dewdney Trail. The introduction of the mill diversified the region's economy, marking a transition from traditional cattle ranching to agricultural production, with wheat cultivation becoming a significant source of income.

Despite facing challenges such as changes in transportation and periods of dormancy, the Grist Mill endured as a symbol of resilience and adaptation. Following meticulous restoration efforts, the mill stands today as a testament to innovation and history, meticulously reconstructed to its 1881 operating layout. Visitors are invited to step back in time, exploring the mill's original machinery and the General Store's heritage exhibits, while reflecting on the profound impact it had on shaping the economic and cultural landscape of the Similkameen Valley.
